This is going to be fun (and messy).

Tearing apart Microsoft's claims that PCs are better than Mac

I can’t say a company can’t support their product, but do they really have to stoop to this level? — not to say Apple hasn’t done the same thing, but usually it was in the form of cute commercials, or claims actually backed by evidence or demonstrations. I’m also not saying that competition like this isn’t good, it’s just not a great idea to do it in this way — but before we start, let me mention it took me about 20 min to actually find the page because of the mess their website is, know what I mean?

Microsoft Shows Off How Kinect Works

Those lucky bloggers over at T3 have gotten an exclusive demo of the Kinect from Microsoft detailing the inner mechanisms of the game controller. Internally, a ton of goodies are stuffed in: a camera with video capturing capabilities, depth sensor, 4 downwards facing mics, and a silent motor to rotate the whole thing. So continue reading for in-depth segments on movement tracking, voice recognition, and the motor!

Microsoft takes a stand - "I’ve been make my move towards touch"

Yes, those are the fine words from Microsoft’s Joey deVilla who is defending the company from claims by Ars-Technica (and T3ch H3lp) saying that “blogs don’t know what we’re talking about”. Apparently we’re not going to see the regular Windows 7, non-touch-friendly elements in the tablet OS, but there is still a few things that are holding it back…

Halo 2600 on the Atari - Play it Online Now

Ever wonder what Halo might’ve looked like if it were released back during the days of the Atari 2600?Well, wonder no more now that Ed Fries, Microsoft’s ex-VP of games publishing, went ahead and made himself his own version of what the 2600 experience would’ve been like.

Microsoft is rusting - Also, Steve Ballmer still doesn't get the iPad

Microsoft is slowly starting to become irrelevant in the personal mobile computing market, namely smartphones and tablets. Apple on the other hand became top dog in the tablet market literally in a few weeks, and the sad part is Steve Ballmer and Microsoft still “Dont get it”. If you don’t get why your competitors products are successful, how the hell are you going to stay relevant? If Microsoft doesn’t re-invent the way they look at consumer products, they’ll collapse in on themselves like a dying star.

Switch to Bing and Microsoft donates $3 to kids

If this isn’t incentive to switch to Bing, I don’t know what is — and the fact that it’s a donation to schools is a really nice touch. They’ve donated $66,000+ so far, and the counter is rising (slower than we’d expect), but for now, we encourage you to head over to the page linked in the post title and help some kids. Keep in mind as well, this is all just Microsoft trying to get people hooked on Bing (but for god sakes, it’s for the kids!)

Is Xbox getting a new logo?

A while back, before Natal was redubbed the Kinect, there were some talks that Microsoft was going to be rebranding Xbox. Well, nothing came of it except a small change in the design of retail packaging, that is until we recently caught sight of some leaked images of Microsoft’s proposed new Xbox logo… or is it?

Video - In-Depth Look at Windows Phone 7

Engadget has done it again with this amazing look at Windows Phone 7, which I picked this video from. They mention that the OS doesn’t feel as “complete” as other mobile OS’s, and that most parts of Phone 7 feel like a “wireframe”.

Understandably, it has a very “wireframe” and boxy UI, but that’s the style they are going for — and I sort of dig it… any thoughts guys?

Infographic - Microsoft and the Current State of Cloud Computing

Ever since Google became big man on campus, Microsoft has been ignoring the attention of online cloud users who naturally flocked over to services like Google Docs, Gmail and Calendar. Recently, Microsoft has made major pushes towards becoming a more “cloud friendly” company, but (unfortunately) their main focus is still the enterprise market. They have (very) recently started to claw their way into the consumer cloud, and managed to gain steam in what seems to be the fastest growing market today. Google is still on top, but Microsoft appears to be building a solid foundation and is now trying to keep their heads in the clouds and their eyes on the prize.

Microsoft needs to provide for competing platforms

Over the years, Microsoft has lost its spunk and has begun to slide into a corporate world of grey mush. There is a light of hope for MS because they have begun to provide core functionality to competing platforms like Apple and Nokia. They have begun to realize the technology they poses could power thousands of competing products, and give them a new start in the world of consumer electronics…
